Open the window to a wider world: visiting Republican Confucius Institute of the Belarusian State University

Republican Confucius Institute of the Belarusian State University is situated in the center of the beautiful Minsk city, the capital of the Republic of Belarus, opposite the bustling pedestrian street. On April 12, 2024, Zhang Haijun, Master of Law and lecturer at the Department of English and Oriental Languages of the Belarus State Economic University, together with Belarusian students from the Faculty of International Business Communications and the Faculty of International Relations studying the Chinese language, and Chinese teacher Xu Shueqin from Hexi University, as well as students from the 3rd year of the Department of Belarusian and Russian languages, visited the Confucius Institute of the BSU. The bronze statue of Confucius at the entrance to the university has become a noticeable element of the Minsk landscape.

Teachers and students from the BSEU, under the guidance of Liu Suling, the director of the Confucius Institute of the BSU from the Chinese side, entered the territory of the Confucius Institute, which exudes a historical atmosphere and is filled with Eastern color. The tour began on the fourth floor, where a beautiful cultural wall is located, which is not only a decoration, but also a symbol of history and culture. Paintings vividly interpret the unique Eastern flavor and deep traditions of Chinese culture. The third floor is a blue-and-white architecture of Chinese-Belarusian cooperation, representing beautiful paintings that demonstrate the ancient and mysterious artistic charm. The Chinese library on the second floor is particularly attractive to visitors, it is a cultural palace rich in cultural heritage, which provides Chinese students with a platform for learning and collaboration. The photo walls on the first floor, like a scroll of history, carry the sweat and wisdom of teachers, bearing witness to the long history of Chinese culture.

Director Liu Suling noted during the visit that with the increasing influence of Chinese culture, the Confucius Institute is becoming a strong international platform. She hopes that through various activities conducted by the Confucius Institute at the BSEU under the BSU, students will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. Students from China and Belarus, representing the BSEU, Zheng Xuejian and student of the Belarusian State University Allaeva Anastasia, spoke on behalf of the students. They noted that thanks to this event, they expanded their horizons and learned about Chinese culture, Chinese government scholarships, and volunteers in Chinese language, which helped them find direction for further study.

After the tour, the students expressed their admiration and said that this was a very interesting event. For those studying Chinese, it not only helps to consolidate the material learned in class, but also allows them to learn about new cultural features of China; for students from China, it allows them to personally feel the attractiveness of traditional culture and hope to become its carriers and inheritors, so that Chinese civilization continues to shine in the river of history.
