Belarus-China Economic Cooperation as Viewed by BSEU Students

On November 25, 2015, a student section under the title “Economy of the People’s Republic of China in the 21st Century and its Importance in the Modern World” was held as part of the 6th International Research Conference “Chinese Civilization in Dialogue of Cultures”, organized by BSU Confucius Republican Institute of Sinology. The event took place at the Belarusian State Economic University, with the active participation of BSEU Confucius Classroom, students and lecturers of the School of Finance and Banking.
The research findings were presented by undergraduate and graduate students of BSEU and BSU, as well as some high school students. The session was opened by the scientific supervisor of the section, V.I. Novikova, assistant lecturer of BSEU banking department. On behalf of the BSEU Confucius Classroom, T.F. Solonovich greeted the participants, emphasizing the relevance of the conference topics and wishing the participants success in their research endeavour.
It must be acknowledged that the students of the BSEU School of Finance and Banking took an especially active part in the conference. The third-year student Yulia Terekhova made a presentation entitled “Free Economic Zones of China: Conclusions for Belarus”, suggesting that our country should learn from China’s successful experience.
Considerable attention was paid to the prospects of cooperation between Belarus and China in the credit and investment sphere. The students Anna Zhuromskaya and Olga Zamorskaya, Valeria Bogush, master program student Daria Kuzmich addressed these issues in their presentations.
Papers analyzing the experience of China in the field of e-commerce attracted keen interest. The students paid due attention to the practical suggestions of Victoria Sermyagina and Elena Bondarovich on the development of marketing steps and effective pricing policy in this area.
Scientific discussion was aroused by the paper of an international guest, BSU postgraduate student Genn Shuan on “Theory and Experience of Foreign Countries in the Field of Financial Regulation and Prospects for China”, as well as an interesting presentation on the investment attractiveness of the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China, presented by students Artem Baiko and Ivan Tkachuk. The highlight of the conference was the presentation of the 10th grade student of the Smolevichi gymnasium, Eugenia Subot, about the Chinese-Belarusian industrial park. It is always inspiring to watch very young people taking their first steps in science.

The program of the conference included a tea break, during which the participants and guests could relax, discuss issues of interest in an informal setting and even participate in an improvised Chinese tea ceremony.
Altogether, 16 papers were presented at the conference session, the materials of which will be published. As a result of the session, the conclusion was drawn that due to the in-depth analysis by the participants of various aspects of Chinese-Belarusian investment cooperation, it was possible to identify topical issues and promising areas for its development.
Participants and guests were pleased to note that the conference was held in an easy and relaxed atmosphere, leaving everyone present in a good mood.
We hope that meetings of this format will be held in the future, because they not only contribute to the improvement of the educational process and its modernization, stimulate research activities of students, but also allow everyone to enjoy their time in the company of like-minded people.
