On February 21, 2025, as part of the festival “China: The Great Heritage” at the Belarus State Economic University (BSEU), two events took place: a masterclass on Chinese chess (xiangqi) and a thematic lecture on Chinese fashion.
Xiangqi Masterclass
Xiangqi is a traditional Chinese board game that shares some similarities with European chess, Indian chaturanga, and Japanese shogi. It is one of the most popular chess-like games in the world, combining strategy, tactics, and deep logic.
The instructors, Zhang Hairong, Liu Yixiao, Li Zilong, and Nazarenko V.Yu., introduced the participants to the history of the game, its pieces, and rules. They also demonstrated interesting move combinations, which sparked great interest among the audience. The event was organized with the help of invited guests and Lishkevich Lia, a third-year student from the Faculty of International Business and Communications.
After the theoretical part, students had the opportunity to play several games of xiangqi and participate in a quiz.

Lecture on Chinese Fashion
Following the masterclass, Chinese language instructor Liu Hui delivered a thematic lecture on the history of Chinese fashion. Students learned about how fashion evolved through the dynasties in Chinese history, fascinating facts about clothing creation, and the importance of color and style. Some participants even had the chance to try on elements of traditional Chinese attire.
Special attention was paid to modern trends and the “New Chinese Style.” The lecturer explained the key differences from traditional styles, showcased photos from fashion shows at the end of the previous year, and discussed current trends in both China and Belarus for the season.
These events provided students and guests with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Chinese culture, exploring both its ancient traditions and contemporary influences.
