Chinese Chess Club

Chinese Chess Club

On the 1st of March 2019 the library of the Belarusian State Economic University held an opening ceremony of the Chinese Chess Club.

The club was organized by the joint efforts of the Confucius Cabinet of BSEU and the Republican Confucius Institute of Sinology at BSU in order to popularize this ancient Chinese board game in universities of Belarus.

Chess is the most popular intellectual game in modern China. In the rapidly growing Chinese economy and with the growing interest of the West to China and Chinese culture, we are convinced that Chinese chess have a chance to obtain the same popularity as traditional chess, common in the West.

Chess not only develops intelligence, but also represents a wonderful way to familiarize with Chinese culture, strengthen intercultural communication, and deepen economic cooperation with China.

In this regard, Ikonnikov V.F., Professor of the Department of Information Technologies at BSEU, and Saevich V.V., Instructor of the Department of Economic Theory, gathered students of the School of International Business Communication and held the first Chinese chess championship. Students from China were also glad to be a part in this exciting event. One of the teachers from the Department of English and Oriental Languages, Wu Yue, especially excelled and snatched the victory from the coach in her first match.

The Chinese Chess Club invites everyone who is interested in Chinese culture and intellectual games! Club meetings are held every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Electronic Resources Hall of the Library of the Economic University (room 1).
